Many of you probably don’t know that I am a student currently working on my thesis. Let me tell you first hand — it is NOT the easiest thing in the world. And even though I like what I’m studying, finding the motivation to sit down and work is difficult (to say the least). So the other day, with a deadline looming, I reach out to my Twitter peeps for suggestions on where I could go on a cold, rainy Seattle day to work in a warm, comfortable setting without distractions.
1 person gave me recs. Sheesh! So I went looking on Yelp & GoTime to find somewhere with a fireplace (the epitome of comfort, right?). Here’s what I decided on:

I knew I’d picked the right place when I walked in and ran straight into Ms. Molly Hoyne from Stratejoy! One of my favorite people (with a kickass blog — check it out), I’d trust her rec any day, and this just so happened to be her favorite hang out cafe. Right away I was introduced to the owner/barista and ordered my americano and a banana blueberry muffin.
After chatting for a bit with Molly, I got to work. I felt right at home at my cozy little table (they have an incredible variety of seating from tables, to couches and arm chairs, to comfortable stools at high tables). the place was warm, the atmosphere wasn’t loud (until the grinder was switched on! haha), and I found myself suddenly very, very productive! In a couple hours I managed to finish what I needed to do without discomfort or distractions.
Their coffee was tasty, and their banana blueberry muffin tasted both semi-healthy and delicious! And you really can’t beat the decor and that fireplace! It’s set on the side of Queen Anne Hill, in it’s own little nook of the neighborhood. While it’s by no means out of the way, there’s something about it that makes it feel like an escape from the city — a little retreat.
If you’re looking for a place to talk to a client, a place to unwind with friends (did I mention they have wine?), or a place to work by yourself in a serene but hip environment, Muse gets my vote!
